When I first
heard LiveBinders, I thought it was going to be a website that was very plain
and that it was not going to help much in the classroom, yet as I was creating
the assignment and messing around with the features it had, really great ideas
came into mind as to how I can possibly use it for the students or even myself.
I am a first year teacher and I carry a million and one things inside my cart that
follows me everywhere. Everything I do receive in the classroom seems really
important to me that I feel the need to carry it everywhere. With this online
tool, I feel I can store there many things that I know do not need to be
carried everywhere I go because I can simply organize them and place them into
tabs that allow me to keep them organized yet still have them available in case
I were to need them.
So as I was
creating this assignment, I decided to create my binder filled with resources
that will help either me or the students in ELAR and Social Studies, as well as
a tab for me to include some of the resource links and files that I were to
need just in case. I created a tab specifically for student resources so that I
can add those tools, apps, or files that will help them learn and understand
more. In that same tab, I made two sub tabs to organize the ELAR resources from
the Social Studies resources. That way when I am planning for that certain
topic, it will help me identify which links or resources I am able to use. I also
created a teacher tab so that I can know that those resources are specifically
for me to use such as the gradebook and Pinterest. Under this tab, I created
two subtabs, Data and Resources that I am able to use for other things within
the classroom.
STUDENTS CONTENT E-BINDER
As I was
going over this tool, I thought my 5th grade ELAR class would
benefit from this because as I am going to start assigning them homework, having
them carry their ELAR notebook back and forth is going to become an issue and
so by them creating an e-binder where they can add their class note, then they
can access their notes from the notebook without having to actually take it out
of the classroom. Having the students copy the notes again for a second time
allows them to retain a little more information and understand it better as
they are writing.
TEACHER DATA PORTFOLIO
Another idea
that I was able to come up as I was playing with the LiveBinders is that I can
use this for my personal use where I add all the files of all the students and
the grades they receive throughout the year so that I can be more organized and
be able to see their progress more clearly.
STUDENTS GROUP WORK
Another way
I thought could be useful in the classroom was to have students create a Binder
as a group. Again, this would be done in my 5th grade ELAR and
Social Studies class where I would assign a specific Social Studies topic or a
ELAR content to each group. Then, each one would have to create a Binder
together and present it to the class with what they learned of that specific topic.

Lorena,
ReplyDeleteI love your enthusiasm as a first year teacher! Your clever idea for the Student E-binder is a great one because of the fact of losing something. It is so true that when something goes home in their backpack, it is never to be found again because it went down the black hole. Having them duplicate their notes a second time is a wonderful way to reinforce the material learned. Great post!

Hello Lorena,
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way about live binders. When I started working with it I felt very optimistic about the many ways I can use it. I am also incorporating it in my next tech training. I know that teachers will like these digital binders and will be collecting resources and material for their lesson planning purposes. I also like your ideas about using it in the classroom with your students. In particular I like the idea of how you are allowing for student collaboration. Thank you for sharing your ideas.

Lorena,
ReplyDeleteI, too, am a first year teacher and carry a cart with hardcopies of everything I use and develop. However, LiveBinders is a great program that can help with the huge paperwork and load that we carry around. Like you said, having a teacher portfolio is a great idea for showcasing work we've done with our students or just to build a curriculum/activity binder.
Lorena,
ReplyDeleteI agree that this can be a great tool to save everything online and not have to keep hard copies of everything! I think this site is good for teachers and students alike to store information and sites that they have found valuable in their learning. Since students do so much of their work online, this site is great for them to remember what they have used and to stay organized.
Great post!

Hello Lorena,
ReplyDeleteI am glad to know that your perception about LiveBinders change after using it. I really like your ideas on how to integrate this online tool in the classroom, especially the student content binder. Students do not need to take their notebooks or study guides over the weekend instead they can upload everything to their Live Binder. No more excuses for not completing their homework.
Hi Lorena:
ReplyDeleteI liked your student work group idea. The teacher can create a digital binder to learn the Social Study different subjects. The subjects can be organized in tabs, and the subject topics in sub-tabs. The teacher need to provide an introductory tab as well as guidelines, handouts and resources that help students with their assignments.
