After taking this class, learning
about the different variety of technology tools that are available to use in
the classroom in order to make a more interactive classroom and make sure that
the technology is integrated and used in a way that can aid the workload that
is given to us such as grading papers has been put into place in my current 5th
grade classroom to have a first-hand interaction with the tool itself.
As the
semester comes to an end, I am choosing the Edmodo and Google Drive as my Web
2.0 tools. The subject and grade level that my lesson will be prepared for is a
5th grade ELAR classroom that focuses on figurative language. I have decided to
focus on this lesson because as a current 5th grade classroom
teacher in an elementary setting, kids have so much trouble grasping the
different kinds of figurative language that authors include in the text in
order to create some type of reaction to the reader.
The learning
goals for this lesson will be that the students will be able to identify the
different types of figurative language within poetry and explain the author’s
purpose for writing the figurative language within the text.
In this
lesson, I will include an Imovie that includes a variety of songs that the
students hear daily in order engage them with something that is to their
interest. Also, in order to activate their prior knowledge, I will have the
students think about the tone and mood the song makes them feel when they
listen to it and then focus specifically on a certain phrase that contains
figurative language within the song.
In this
lesson, I am going to use Edmodo and Google Drive in order to teach them
figurative language. I will share an Imovie figurative language video that will
explain what each individual figurative language is through songs. Then I would
share different types of song lyrics through Google Drive with the students and
have them highlight and comment the name of the figurative language they find throughout
the song. After they are done, they will link their Google Drive document
through Edmodo and turn it in to be graded.
After they complete
the assignment, I will create a quiz through Edmodo with different examples of
figurative language and have the students identify them through a series of
answer choices. The assignment will them be graded through Edmodo.
Lorena, I like your idea of using songs to help the students identify figurative language. I am sure that using songs that they like will definitely spark their interest. This lesson will help them to continue to practice identifying figurative language every time they pay attention to the lyrics of a song. They need to continue to review figurative language because it will not be the last school year they will be held accountable for it.
ReplyDeleteHi Lorena,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea to incorporate lmovie to have your students learn by using songs, which students hear daily, so that they can relate and feel comfortable engaging in the topic of figurative language. I also like how you will incorporate videos, since they will relate better by seeing it with the acting. Thanks!
